Today we go back to talking about pasta and we suggest 3 Italian pasta brands that – in our opinion – should not be missing on the shelves of a supermarket abroad.
In the past 20 years the world production of pasta has gone from just over 9 to almost 15 million tons per year. A quarter of which is produced in our country, while the remaining 75% is made abroad. Pasta conquers the palates of the whole globe day after day. Do you know who consumes the most in the world? We Italians, obviously (23.5 kg per head per year), followed – surprisingly, I would say – by Tunisians (17 kg) and Venezuelans (12 kg). The USA is also a market that highly appreciates Italian pasta (8.8 kg). France, with 8 kg, precedes Germany (7.7 kg). The amount of pasta Italy exports is higher than the amount intended for internal consumption. Almost 60% of all the pasta produced in our Country ends up on foreign markets, especially the European ones. It is estimated that in the Old Continent 3 out of 4 pasta dishes are prepared with Italian products.
On the shelves of supermarkets all over the world, Italian pasta is always proudly displayed. Barilla and De Cecco are the most popular and appreciated brands abroad. We have already talked about them extensively in a previous article. Today we want to recommend to our customers 3 Italian top pasta brands that stand out for the quality of the raw materials and that – in our opinion – should not be missing in supermarkets all over the world. Take a look!
A superior-quality pasta made with exclusively Italian wheat. Exceptional to the palate, but also beautiful to see and taste. This is La Molisana. The company, based in Molise, southern Italy, has a centuries-old history and is the protagonist of an ever growing success not only on the Italian market, but also abroad. A fine grain, we said: highly proteinic, rich in gluten and with a high yellow index. Coming from lands traditionally suited and devoted to cereal production, such as Molise, Apulia, Marche, Lazio and Abruzzi. A supply chain that employs over 1450 farmers in the Center-South for a total production of over 300 thousand quintals of pasta. Quality raw material, pure water from Molise, stone hulling and bronze drawing are the main elements for a superior quality pasta like La Molisana.
One of the most representative formats offered by La Molisana is undoubtedly the “spaghetto quadrato” (square spaghetti). Typical of the Abruzzi-Molise tradition, in past centuries it was made at home with a tool similar to a zither. La Molisana sensed the potential of this format and decided to include it in the base line, alongside more famous dies such as spaghetti, fusilli and penne rigate. The success was disruptive, so much so that the square spaghetti has become the symbol of the entire product range of La Molisana. A range that also includes whole wheat, organic, gluten-free pasta and many delicious formats to add imagination and creativity to each dish.

Another Italian pasta brand that should not be missing in a supermarket abroad is Delverde. This pasta is characterized by the superlative quality of its ingredients. Highly selected grains and above all pure, pristine and naturally cold water from the Verde River. The factory is located right next to the river: close to nature and respectful of its deep values. Moreover, in April 2019, Delverde has gone back to being 100% Italian. The Abruzzi company, in fact, was entirely acquired by Newlat, a local giant in the agri-food sector, after being owned for several years by the Argentine multinational Molinos Rio De La Plata. Delverde pasta also stands out for its captivating look, which certainly does not go unnoticed on the shelves: green packaging with a transparent drop-shaped part (allowing the consumer to “see” the format of the pasta contained in the package).

In Gragnano, considered the European capital of pasta so much that it obtained the PGI certification in 2013, there has been an excellent pasta factory for three generations: Di Martino. The love for the territory and its special resources, the constant search for quality and perfection are the main keys of the success of Di Martino pasta. It is obtained using only the best 100% Italian durum wheat semolina, mixed with pure water from the Forma spring. Bronze drawing and slow drying at low temperature complete the production process of a truly top pasta. An authentic “white gold”, which holds its firmness perfectly during the cooking (to always be “al dente), guarantees a high protein intake and, at the same time, stands out for its unique taste and high digestibility. The best you can ask for a pasta! For this reason, in our opinion, it should not be missing in an Italian goods shop abroad. To conclude, the cherry on top: the new graphic look of Pasta di Martino is signed by the great Dolce & Gabbana.
